- Ten Rules for Asking Others to Share
Knowledge The
short
version is available from Jack Vinson's blog. An expanded 6-page version, which explains the rules
and gives examples of their use, is available by request from
info@km-experts.com.
- Ten Things I've Learned About Knowledge
Management is a short article that
was written to provoke discussion within Hewlett-Packard's knowledge
management community. Rather than causing controversy, it seemed
to have generated a collective nodding of heads.
Extremely Interesting Articles
We've never much cared for lists of cool,
hot or merely interesting links because the lists often lack context and
don't explain why the compiler thinks they're interesting.
We promise to provide context and to keep the list very short.

Whales Learn to Share Best Practices While we struggle to break down
organizational silos and stop reinventing the wheel, other large-brained
mammals seem to be practicing KM too. This is not the only "animal
KM" story we've run across, but it's recent (Sept. 2005) and interesting.
As the lead paragraph says, "An
enterprising young killer whale at Marineland has figured out how to use
fish as bait to catch seagulls -- and shared his strategy with his
fellow whales."

Saddam
Hussein Caught by Social Network Analysis This is our favorite SNA story. When Bruce first learned about it, he
contacted the Battalion Public Affairs Officer to see if Lt. Santana
would talk about her work via phone from Iraq to a group of KM practitioners that he was leading.
He was politely informed that Lt. Santana and Cpl. Engstrom had several more
important things to do. We hope they returned safely from Iraq and
were showered with medals and promotions. If anybody knows their
current whereabouts, we would still like to hear their story first hand!
