Bruce Karney founded KM-Experts in 2005 after spending more than 15 years in KM, education, marketing, and process engineering at Hewlett-Packard.  He was one of the pioneers of KM at HP, beginning his KM career work 1994.  HP is one of the most successful knowledge creating companies in the world, and has frequently been named one of the 20 "Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises" in the annual survey conducted by the Know Network.

Bruce's passion is the human side of knowledge management, and helping organizations improve the productivity of their knowledge workers by making sure that systems, culture, processes, and technology are all aligned to support the natural desire of knowledge workers to collaborate and learn.

Bruce earned his BS in Mathematical Sciences from Stanford and his MS in Management Science from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.  He is located in Silicon Valley.

People who have worked with Bruce are often happy to offer their public endorsement.  Here are four examples from his LinkedIn profile:

  • “Bruce brought an unusual combination of creativity and disciplined execution to his KM work. Always willing to experiment with new ideas, but always careful about trying to monitor and measure actual outcomes, and always generous about sharing what he learned (both good and bad).” Chuck Sieloff, retired Chief Knowledge Officer of Hewlett-Packard (USA)
  • “I have known Bruce for over 20 years. He's one of the most gifted people I know. He has an unusual combination of mathematical, verbal and interpersonal skills, and is a first-rate thinker. I recommend him highly!” Scott Dailey, owner of Scott Dailey Creative (USA)
  • “Having interacted with Bruce over the net, I can say that his passion for KM and Knowledge Sharing really came out strongly on the various forums at HP. He really reaches out across the organizational structures and connects with people to benefit his clients internally!” Gautam Ghosh, Dell Computers (India)
  • “Without Bruce's hard work and brilliant ideas our KM program would certainly not evolve and improve the way it did. His ability in analyzing every aspect always impressed me and brought new light in many issues we faced over time. I sought his help and advice in many tasks and enjoyed working with him in the past 5 years.” Gita Haghi, Hewlett-Packard Consulting (Austria)

Chuck Sieloff has more than 25 years of management experience at Hewlett-Packard, mostly in a variety of Information Technology roles. He managed pioneering efforts in business process re-engineering, large-scale intranet deployment, and the creation of an automated common operating environment for more than 100,000 PC users. He also provided strategic direction and thought leadership for internal programs dealing with technology strategy, change management, and knowledge management.

Chuck's work as an innovator and "idea practitioner" was featured in the recent book by Tom Davenport and Larry Prusak, What's the Big Idea? Creating and Capitalizing on the Best Management Thinking (Harvard Business School Press, 2003).

In 1999, Chuck retired from HP and became a research affiliate at the Institute for the Future, focusing on emerging technologies, innovation in large organizations, and the future of R&D.

Chuck has a B.A. from Wesleyan University (Connecticut), as well as M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in European history from Stanford University. He has published articles on a variety of topics, including IT strategy, knowledge management, scenario planning, and organizational innovation.  Chuck's LinkedIn profile contains additional information about his background.
